The Connection Between Spirituality and Corporeality

The Connection between Spirituality and CorporealityTwo questions I received on how to connect spirituality and regular life

Question: How does the spiritual world influence and enliven our world, if the two worlds aren’t connected? Do they have a “cause-and-effect” connection? If so, then why isn’t our world also perfect and eternal?

My Answer: Our world is governed entirely from above. And every day we are becoming more and more convinced of this, because no matter how we try to change things, nothing goes according to plan.

The only way we can influence the Upper World (from below upwards) is to evoke (ask for) an acceleration (but not a change) of the process of our correction (by studying in the group and disseminating). We will perceive this acceleration as if evil and suffering are replaced by goodness and pleasure.

Question: Why does a person have to separate the spiritual part of his life from the regular one?

My Answer: It’s necessary to separate the two worlds. However they aren’t separate in and of themselves, but only relative the person who attains them. Outside a person, there is only the general Light. Once a person attains the Upper World, through it he sees our world, and he is no longer confused about the origin of everything that happens and about the connections between all parts of the world. But if he starts attaining the Upper World from our world, then he will get confused and start seeing forces through objects. He will do the same thing that the religions and faiths do – start thinking that there is spirituality inside the objects of our world, worshiping material objects such as trees, lucky charms, red strings, holy water, or predicting the future. This is why Baal HaSulam writes that one first attains the Upper World, and only after such attainment, one starts researching (from the Upper World) the descending forces that form our world, and the phenomena in our world.

Authentic Kabbalah or Authentic Business?

Authentic Kabbalah or Authentic BusinessA question I received: You are constantly making stabs at the Kabbalah Centre and for the life of me I can’t understand why. They have the lineage. Rav Berg learned through Ashlag and the lineage. Is it because you were connected, but not given the Kabbalah Centre? You then started your own center. I read your books, including The Complete Idiot’s Guide to kabbalah. It is a book without religion or spirituality, it is just science. I enjoyed it, but the Kabbalah Centre offers spirituality, holiday obsservance and they have lineage with Brandwein, Ashlag and the Ari. It just hurts me to see someone who is into Kabbalah, like yourself, putting down other people for the red string and their own beliefs. Isn’t that anti-Kabbalah?

My Answer: Personally, I consider Berg a failed Kabbalist. He just didn’t have a true teacher. Berg did not study Kabbalah with any true Kabbalist; you can ask Ashlag or Brandwein about it. No true Kabbalist could have taught him to sell Kabbalah for money. And I never wanted his center. I had a teacher - the last great Kabbalist, the eldest son of Baal HaSulam and his spiritual successor – Rav Baruch Ashlag. I was never connected to the Kabbalah Center. I was there once to give an introductory lecture and immediately understood that there is nothing to learn there. After I was studying with Rav Baruch Ashlag for a year, I offered teaching a class to Berg’s lecturers in the Kabbalah Center, in order to teach them at least something. As a result, they left his center and came to my teacher, and they became Kabbalists. That acquaintance and my visit to his center took place in 1980, but I opened my center only in 1995. Please tell me: what Kabbalistic sources are used for study in those “Kabbalah” centers? What works of the great Kabbalists do they study there? But after all, it’s only by studying them that a person receives the recognition of evil and its correction (Ohr Makif). And about me envying Berg: There was a time when I was giving lectures in LA and he offered me a teaching job in his center. I said I would do it, but on the condition that we study from the original sources. He laughed when I said this to him, and he told me “Who will pay you the kind of money for this that I’m now getting?” And he was right…

On Authentic Sources

On Authentic SourcesA question I received: Wasn’t it proved that the books of Joseph Flavius are false? A lot has been written about this.

My Answer: I don’t believe anything or anyone. Every researcher is first and foremost an egoist, wanting to “discover” something in order to get famous and to prove that he’s worth something, at least to himself! I wouldn’t base my life on any sources except authentic Kabbalistic ones. So it doesn’t really matter whether they are correct. All the books, other than those written from the attainment of the Upper Worlds, might as well disappear. What do we need them for? The only use we have for them is to verify, through the path of suffering, that the only science is the attainment of the Upper Governing Force.

I understand that my words might be confusing, but any act one makes that isn’t aimed at the root of one’s soul, even the most beautiful and aesthetic act, made “with the best intentions” etc., only causes suffering in the world. And even with books written from the attainment of the Upper Worlds – we still need to select those that lead us to the goal in the shortest and most direct way. Read Kabbalists’ advice about this (below).

Conscious Acceleration Toward Life’s Purpose

Conscious Acceleration Toward the Purpose of CreationA question I received: I have been reading and watching different Kabbalistic materials over the course of this past year. Sometimes I’m very interested in Kabbalah, and other times I get too busy doing daily things and searching for pleasure. Over this period of time I gradually started feeling that something is happening inside of me. I became sadder and less satisfied. But some time ago, my life and my previous sensations have completed the changes they were going through. I have experienced a loss, and suddenly my heart started hurting so bad that I didn’t know where to hide from this pain. I realized that there is nothing else in this world that could satisfy me. For the first time in my life I started to desire studying Kabbalah with passion. I started watching the beginners’ course over the internet. The first lesson was like heaven to me. I don’t know why I was feeling so incredibly well while watching it. My heart still hurts every time I don’t watch lessons.

My Answer: There is one path for everybody, and nobody can choose another path. There’s an opportunity to take the path toward the goal of creation consciously, while others go against their will, and with a much slower speed. A person following the conscious path also experiences plenty of sadness and stress, but everything depends on the environment. One needs to close one’s eyes and give himself fully to the environment. Everyday there are more unhappy and devastated people in the world. Just imagine that you’re going to the same place that they are, and that the only difference is that they are walking, while you’re flying past them in parallel on an escalator. The fast changes in your mood, thoughts, and inner life happen because of the increase in your speed relative to others.

We Have Civilizations Within Us

Civilizations Exist Inside UsA question I received: I’ve heard you say something like no civilizations of the past are seen in the “revealed.” Does it mean that everything scientists are now finding (in support of a theory of the earlier civilizations) appears in our senses as a reality that we ourselves are demanding? In other words, the external forces react to our demands by creating more new “decorations.”

My Answer: You’re absolutely right! As a result of the descent from spirituality, when the desire created by the Creator reached its lowest level, it perceived within itself what we feel as “me” and the world surrounding us (as external to “me”). The processes and the internal changes started being perceived as time, space and movement (again, external to “me”). This is how a person perceives that something had already existed before he appeared. But who actually sensed it? Without senses, nothing exists. Everything exists in our imagination, in our senses. Read the article “Preface to the Book of Zohar,” item 34.

What Is the Upper Light?

What Is the Upper Light?A question I received: You say that Kabbalah is a science. That’s fair. The two forces of nature, bestowal and receiving. All of nature is nothing but bestowal, and man is the only element in nature that disrupts the balance, he creates disbalance, and this is why we suffer.

Everything is fine until we get to this point. But finally, when we get to the point where we need to fix the balance, you say: Ohr Makif. Hmm… Some light comes out of nowhere and corrects me. And what confuses me the most is that this light comes from a book. Could you please explain or define what “light” is in a practical and clear manner? I thought that Kabbalah was a science about forces, nature, desires, etc. In my perception Upper Light is not a scientific term and directly refers to something esoteric. Maybe you could make this notion more reasonable and comprehensible? What is this force that corrects us? Is this the force of bestowal? Then why is it called Ohr Makif? How can this “light” able to help prevent suffering on our path of development? Is it in any way related to the corporeal light?

My Answer: If I were you with your love for sciences, I would study “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah” (Pticha) or maybe I would even start studying Talmud Eser Sefirot! These texts explain several spiritual notions in a scientific language: 1. desire, 2. correction of intention from “for one’s own sake” to “for the sake of the Creator,” 3. fulfillment by the Light, pleasure, the Creator, to the extent of the corrected intention. There is nothing else in Kabbalah.

Ohr Makif is a force that influences us from a more corrected state, which we aspire toward. It responds to your aspiration in the following way: it pulls you to a higher, more altruistic state to the same extent you aspire for it. This is an interaction of two vectors of desires. The same mutual influence of forces also exists in our world, when a person aspires for any new thing. The difference is that when it comes to spiritual aspiration, this force that pulls you to a new state is referred to as Light, because it doesn’t just pull you through its influence upon you, but it also changes you, making you become like the new state, one that is spiritual and altruistic. The difference between this force of Light, and the force that pulls you toward a new state in our world is that, the force in our world doesn’t need to change you to pull you to something. Check it out for yourself to eliminate any doubts.

The Physics of the Upper Light

The Physics of the Upper LightAn Attack: How does the Upper Light become a fabric of our world? Do you know it for a fact? — No, you don’t! So here’s my proposal to correct this flaw in Kabbalah. If the singularity of substance and the Upper Light, Partzufim and Sefirot, was to be shown scientifically, then the Kabbalah teaching would conquer the world! But unless physics becomes part of Kabbalah, then it’s never going to happen.

An Attempt to Justify Myself: Who’s being categorical today? The singularity of substance and the Upper Light — No! It’s not that you don’t perceive the Upper Light because it’s hidden - the Upper Light simply doesn’t exist at all until you create it within yourself. Moreover, you lack the corresponding senses needed to create the Upper Light within yourself, and thus, you need to develop these senses. Kabbalah is the method of developing these senses. It reveals the Upper World to you, helping you develop the properties within which you create the Upper World for yourself.

Our world is something that our natural senses, given to us from birth, create within us. That what we perceive (picture) within these senses is referred to as “matter” - our world.

The Upper World is something that is created (pictured, depicted) within us by the spiritual senses that we acquire through Kabbalah. What we perceive through the spiritual senses is referred to as “the Light.”

The science of Kabbalah will never defeat the science of our world, because we perceive science and Kabbalah through two totally different systems: the corporeal and the spiritual.

So how is it going to happen? People will simply come to realize that their sensations, received through their natural senses (the corporeal life, our world), are unfulfilled, and that corporeal science, which is supposed to improve these sensations, is futile. People will reject both science and their sensations, and will hold onto them only to the extent needed for survival until they create the necessary properties, and accordingly, the sensations of the Upper World within themselves. They will then turn to the science of Kabbalah, which is the creation of an eternal and perfect world (sensation) within themselves.

You can try it out for yourself. Many people have already achieved this sensation.

What Is My Predestination?

What Is My Predestination?A question I received: How can I find out what my personal predestination is? I understand that we all have a common predestination, but we also all have our own personal mission, and it’s only logical that each person should have the opportunity to realize his or her responsibility. I spend too much time doubting things and feeling insecure. Is this a sign of something?

My Answer: This is something that only you can discover on your own, to the degree that you progress spiritually.

In our world, we are called “animals” because we spend our lives taking care of our bodies, our offspring, and satisfying our animalistic desires, such as fighting for leadership, our place in the tribe, and so on and so forth. Therefore, nothing you do in this world will be your purpose, because all your actions are designed for benefiting your body, which will eventually die. As such, your predestination can only be a goal that is eternal, and that has you in it.

Kabbalah reveals both the general predestination, and your personal predestination, together with the means to attain it. The general purpose is to connect everyone together and become similar to the Creator through such a connection. Your personal predestination is to bring the whole world to this state, because you are the only one who can do it.

We Were Created Perfect by the Creator

We Were Created Perfect by the CreatorTwo questions I received on this perfect system we live in:

Question: How is it possible that we perform actions that don’t exist in the Creator? That is to say, He doesn’t have to change His nature, but we do. Is this like sacrificing oneself for one’s new “I,” which is real and perfect?”

My Answer: I will slightly correct you: We were created perfect by the Creator, and as a consequence, we don’t perceive this perfection. Hence, He took us out of that state and put us in the opposite state, so we would find the best state on our own - and become convinced that this is exactly what He gave us from the beginning.

Question: I recently began studying Kabbalah, and have reached the conclusion that the diversity or “division” of human (corporeal) desires begets the retardation or as you have said, “the feeling of a dead end” in the development of science, technology, and humanity in general. Is this really so? Have I reached the right conclusion?

My Answer: Obviously, the more harmoniously this single organism of Nature works (in which only man adds disorder, because only he has the freedom of action), the higher is our state, until we reach the point where we perceive the world’s harmony. This is perceived on spiritual levels, degrees of unity with the Creator, the general force of Nature, to the degree that we are equal to him through bestowal and love.

Scientists Have Turned Everything Upside Down (Again)

Scientists Have Turned Everything Upside Down (Again)News Story: DNA Explodes Greek Myth About Women

“Women in Ancient Greece were major power brokers in their own right, researchers have discovered, and often played key roles in running affairs of state. Until now it was thought they were treated little better than servants.

The discovery is part of an investigation by Manchester researchers into the founders of Mycenae, Europe’s first great city-state and capital of King Agamemnon’s domains.

‘It was thought that in those days women were rated as little more than chattels in Ancient Greece,’ said Professor Terry Brown, of the faculty of life sciences at Manchester University. ‘Our work now suggests that notion is wrong.’”

My Comment: Science never insists on anything, but only states whatever it considers to be fact at a given moment. The opinion of tomorrow will be opposite to the opinion of today. I hope that the same will soon happen to our perception of the cause of evil in the world and how to eliminate it. People are gradually starting to understand that it is not our actions that harm nature and evoke its negative reaction upon us, it is our egoistic thoughts.

Take, for example, Carbon Belch Day: Grassfire.org’s protest against taxation for financing the fight against carbon dioxide emissions and global warming, their protest against Al Gore’s “absurdity,” and against the feelings of guilt for ruining the climate.

In our world, we see only the consequences of the Upper Force’s influence; we do not see the connections between the forces, what takes place between them. Even when we observe the cause and consequences in our world, it only seems like they take place within the plane of our world. In reality, however, they come from their own cause, pass through the Upper World, and then return to our world, bringing about the consequences we see. Every event in our world is a consequence of the governing force that descends from above. If, instead of seeing part of the world’s picture, we were to see all of the forces - the causes and consequences - we would discover that it is not carbon dioxide emissions affecting the atmosphere (contrary to the “obvious” facts we see today), but that it is the Upper Forces that determine the atmosphere, and the main component of these forces is our desires and thoughts (heart and reason).
