Today is Unity Day, and many Kabbalah groups and individual students from around the world will participate in it by connecting to us live via the Internet and the Kabbalah TV Channel. In unity we reach the desired result of our entire work, the final outcome of the entire creation because unity is the means, the vessel for the Creator’s revelation, when He is revealed “one to One,” as it is written in The Book of Zohar.

This is the only reality that we can wish for, where instead of feeling himself, everyone feels “someone” who incorporates into himself all of us. When everybody loses their own “I” and feels only “we” instead, it becomes a completely different reality. It is created “above us” and is called Malchut of the World of Atzilut or Shechina.

The broken souls exist in the worlds of BYA and are considered to be “separated from sanctity,” while in the Malchut of the World of Atzilut, above the worlds of BYA, there is the place of our unification. Hence, by aspiring to unite, we build Shechina and in it, we reveal the Creator who is called Shochen.

This is why the day on which we all engage in building such unity is a special day. We need to appreciate it and try to connect to it as much as possible!

Question: Why is it that after every Convention where we experience a great ascent and inspiration, we always experience a descent?

Answer: This is a spiritual process. During the Convention we receive a big “Kli” (spiritual vessel) and connect to a new, bigger desire. However, if we don’t add anything to this new desire afterward, we feel empty.

Over the course of the Convention I connect to the desires of thousands of people and feel that we are all one man with one heart. I feel our mutual guarantee as if I lost myself and dissolved in them. I pass myself over into their hands! Even if this feeling is just there for a few moments and unconsciously, it still happens. Thus, for the first time I already connect with others and reveal a spiritual desire, a Kli, which I did not have previously.

Previously I only had material desires that I wished to fulfill egoistically. This is called the animate level of desire. However, now without even knowing how it occurred, I joined something very big. This connection is a lack of spirituality or bestowal. It is a spiritual desire that was not present in me before.

Now I need to work on it. Yet, instead I leave it, wishing to return to my former regular desire, and await ordinary egoistic fulfillments again. But what about that new spiritual desire? In comparison to material desires, that huge spiritual desire remains empty!

That is why I lose the taste for life and do not understand how I can fulfill myself. The usual “meat and wine” do not bring me pleasure like before. Therefore, in light of the forthcoming Convention this November where we will reveal an even greater, stronger spiritual desire, we need to prepare the right response to it now, ahead of time.

During a Kabbalah Convention we bring together all our forces of bestowal to create one common, collective force. Afterwards, because of this force, a new egoistic desire becomes revealed. We then begin to work on it by ascending with “faith above reason” despite our unwillingness. At that point we find that new people join us, and that’s because we have acquired the strength to take care of them. We affect the common soul, the only creation, with our actions. We gather the forces of bestowal from each person and thereby form one small soul which is equivalent to the single soul of Adam in the state of the World of Infinity. As a result, we awaken all of the souls through our efforts, and they begin to “vibrate” together! This is the dissemination of Kabbalah. We don’t need a lot of materials about the goal and correction. People will simply feel that the source of the Upper Force is here. Question: Are the Kabbalah Conventions necessary in order to accumulate forces so we can rise from the descents that follow? After all, those are the times when we have the chance to exercise our freedom of will, to make a choice between two forces – “to receive or to bestow,” and thanks to the Conventions we are then given the strength to rise?

Answer: Before each Convention we undergo a preparation, and then at the Convention we acquire the force of unity. It is a spiritual force because it arises among us. Later on, once the Convention is over, we feel egoistic emptiness, heaviness, and apathy.

This does not happen by accident; nothing is accidental. We experience a spiritual descent on purpose because a new, uncorrected desire is revealed in us. At that point we should use the force that we obtained during the Convention to rise to the same level of inspiration that we experienced at the time of our gathering. Ideally we should feel the descent for just a fraction of a moment and then immediately rise to the altitude of the Convention. However, this takes a lot of training.

Actually we don’t attain this state all at once, but climb the steps toward it by repeatedly rising and falling a little more each time. That is how we gradually advance towards the state that we sensed at the Convention.

This is real, practical work – practical Kabbalah! Since our success depends on the effort that we apply after the Convention, we have to prepare for this state ahead of time in the same way that an old man double-checks to see whether or not he has lost something. In other words, we have to prepare for a Convention, as well as what will happen after it is over, before it begins. If we are able to do this, then we’ll soon find ourselves ascending 125 steps on the path of the Upper Worlds.

At each Kabbalah Convention we accumulate a “covering” (screen), the force of mutual bestowal that we are ready to work with. A convention is like a large group. We gather people and unite them, and this makes us ready to carry out a mutual goal like a combat squad. However, if we get together just to sing and dance and then go our separate ways, then what’s the point? A convention has to be the place where we do mutual work!

Depending on the states we go through, we will decide how often we should hold these conventions. As we become more sensitive, we will understand when and where we should hold every subsequent convention, how big it should be, and whether it should be regional or worldwide.

Our entire life will be built upon these mutual ascents and descents and they will also determine all of the work done by our factory. Otherwise what are we living for if not for spiritual advancement? The faster we do all of this work, the faster we will reach the entrance to the spiritual world and start ascending up 125 spiritual levels.

For now we are only learning about how to make this ascent, but it is already very close. Once we go through several more exercises like this, we will be ready to work with the Lights and Kelim. It’s not because we are getting smarter and learning the theory, but because we are building a collective force that is a spiritual vessel.

Through these actions we reveal the common force of the group, its soul. With each convention we build it more and more and start to feel how the Light acts within it. That is how we pass the Machsom.

Today there will be a Unity Evening in Beer Sheva, Israel; with every meeting such as this we ascend one step higher. Even if the event is not very big in size, it always adds to the previous one.

We do not feel how our efforts accumulate, but the same thing happens in our earthly development when we have to carry out many actions in order to make a visible growth spurt. It’s just like the escape from Egypt: It happens unexpectedly, hurriedly, and in darkness.

That is why today’s event is so important. Without a doubt every subsequent event is deeper since it is supported by all the previous states. Therefore, it ascends higher than all of them. If we unite all of our previous states together, then every subsequent state will be bigger than the rest, and it doesn’t matter if we feel it or not. The action is not evaluated according to our sensation.

Let’s hope that we are already sufficiently prepared so that after the event we will be able to overcome the descent like an old man who walks hunched over, always checking in advance to see if he has dropped something.

In the same way, we now have to decide that we are ascending and never falling again! “One only ascends in spirituality and never descends.” We have to be ready to overcome all of the weakness that will be revealed to us after the meeting and unity, and the way to do so is by faith above reason. Let’s strengthen our connection so that afterward we will feel the same state of unity as during the meeting.

The state we attain at the meeting should not disappear! We will inevitably feel empty because we will ascend to a certain state of unity and afterward we will part and fall even lower than before. Now the only question is: What am I doing with this descent? The most important and valuable thing is the negative addition we receive because with its help we are able to ascend slightly higher.

This addition of egoism gives us an opportunity to ascend above it by “faith” – the quality of bestowal, which is above knowledge and sensation. The force to overcome the descent comes from Above if we ask for it together.

Only the “Stimulator” system can help us accomplish this because there we continue our unity after the Unity Evening in order to express ourselves there as greatly as possible.

With every meeting we will accumulate more and more drops of unity until “Penny by penny we will collect a great capital.” We don’t know how much we have collected there until it suddenly reaches the necessary sum in order to “pay” for the entrance into the Upper World. This always happens unexpectedly and hurriedly, like the exodus from Egypt. We cannot know about it ahead of time.

The symbol of our upcoming convention is unity, connection, mutual guarantee, and unification of the whole of humanity around the Upper Force which we reveal among us. It will bring us to equality, serenity, peace, and eternity. Through this we cancel death! The angel of death is born from the hatred that separates us. And if instead we draw the spiritual force, the force of bestowal, we merit eternal life. Precisely the hatred between us cancels life and leads us to death. It kills our bodies and gives us a sensation of this world.

This world is a reflection of the egoistic connection between us. However, everyone has to bring himself and the whole world to a different form of connection, when instead of this world we sense a spiritual connection called Assiya, Beria, Yetzira, Atzilut, Adam Kadmon, and the World of Infinity. All the worlds are forms of connection between us; nothing else changes! We will live in our bodies just like now, only our attitudes will change and give us a sensation of a new reality. We’ll feel that we exist in the World of Infinity and cease to feel our bodies since our whole world will ascend to Infinity.

Different relationships and connections between people (from the most threatening to more neutral and benevolent ones) give rise to a spectrum of colors and shades around us. They range from the deepest black to continuously lighter and wonderful colors, such as sky blue and ultimately completely white.

Imagine all of humanity today armed with guns and knives against each other, where each wishes to guard himself from the others with a fortress and to have his cup full there, independent from everyone. And now imagine the complete opposite of that: A completely open world with no boundaries where I and the other are like one whole, and all the people of the world are my children, my neighbors, friends; we are a single organism.

We will begin to feel that without the others, we are losing ourselves. We are starting to learn this from nature bit by bit as we reveal that everyone is connected and interdependent. For the time being, we are reaching this conclusion due to necessity. Later we’ll realize being connected to others is actually good. After all, precisely due to this connection (if we turn it into a correct one) we’ll rise above this world toward perfection and eternity.

I will be grateful that this connection exists since it specifically allows me to change myself and my perception of reality and to enter a different, spiritual, and eternal dimension.

We need to prepare for the convention in November 2010 ahead of time. Both long-time and new students need to think about how to use the strength that we will receive from the preparation for the convention and the convention itself. After all, the real work begins particularly after such meetings when, in response to the force that we receive, we uncover new empty spaces for work.

They are like waves. The preparation for the meeting proceeds on an ascent, and the convention itself is a steep flight upward. However, after the convention we begin to descend. We then need to come out of it into a new and more meaningful ascent than the one we experienced previously. That is, our task is to turn the descent into an ascent.

Therefore, we should start to think about the preparation for the convention, the convention itself, the descent after it, and how we will properly use that descent to begin the preparation for the next meeting. In this manner, this process will continue like breathing in our body: expansion and then compression, expansion and compression, and so on. It is exactly the way all our organs, such as the lungs, the heart, the kidneys, and so on, work. After all, every living organism lives by absorbing and excreting (see Baal HaSulam’s "Contraction and Expansion" [Hitkabtsut ve Hitrachvut]).

Thus, we need to prepare ourselves right now for the few days of the Congress, taking into account this whole process and looking at it as continuous waves, one after another, that are becoming bigger and bigger. This will continue until they sweep over the whole world, and the world will come together to a great meeting: unification.

Any spiritual occurrence in us requires time and development since our egoism is constantly growing in magnitude and quality. Hence, we should think and talk about the emptiness we felt after the recent Mega-Congress.

It is essential to understand why this feeling was given to us! We don’t need to sit and dread our empty existence and lack of strength and desire. This state wasn’t given to us in vain. It is a revelation of new, empty space in us where we have to build the property of Bina. It is a new quality being revealed in us, emerging as a new stage in the four stages of Direct Light.

Spiritual bestowal that used to exist between us has now gone and triggered a new spiritual state. Now we have to discern: What is this new space that emerged within us? We must not let it dissipate; we ought to keep it and start working with it! There isn’t a way to attain bestowal other than to base it on the newly born, empty desire.

An empty space revealed within us and between us is the place where the Creator is revealed (under Zeir Anpin). Now we can fill this space with our intention for bestowal (Hassadim, the property of Bina) and find Him there!

If we fill this empty space with the Light of Hassadim, the Creator will reveal Himself in it like in a photograph dipped into a tub filled with film developer. He is there, in this space; we just need to find Him. If we keep striving to feel Him all together, then we will eventually uncover him. However, we cannot do anything alone. The Creator doesn’t reveal Himself individually, but only through mutual efforts.

We have discovered this empty space together and it belongs to us all even though we may feel that we undergo this state individually. However, it emerged from a collective action, and now we have to work on it together as well. This is what is called “practical Kabbalah.”

These waves that wash over all of us at the same time are a sign of tremendous spiritual progress. It means that the World Kli has come to life like one body that takes collective actions. In this body, new empty spaces are revealed wherein the collective soul will emerge. The time for this is so close!

At the recent Mega-Congress we received sparks of Bina. We were filled by the sensation of bestowal, common unification, and society. Now we don’t have any of this, but the need for it or an empty desire has remained. It causes us to suffer, and our task is to immediately restore our connection with others, draw the Light, act together with everyone, and build a whole mechanism for accomplishing this.

All of this is a sensation of my first spiritual desire! For the first time ever I have received a spiritual vessel. Previously I only had animate and “universal” desires, but now I have received the emptiness of Bina – a sensation of the neighbor which is completely built on bestowal. I felt that there is someone else besides me in the world, and not just an object for me to use! This feeling came to me from Bina.

“The desire to enjoy” doesn’t feel this. A lion that wishes to have a deer for dinner does not relate to the deer as an individual. It just sees a hundred pounds of meat before him and needs this meat in order to survive. It sees everything that moves in front of it from this point of view, but it has no personal relationship with his surroundings and does not wish to inflict harm on anyone.

However, Bina, which is situated in us, is a part of the Upper One. It is the Creator’s quality and it reveals our inner relationship to “people.” During a Convention such as the Mega-Congress I acquire this attitude to the neighbor; I realize his importance and receive pleasure or fulfillment through him.

When the Convention is over, I feel unwell. This is not because my desire simply grew, but the feeling is now coming from a different field altogether, from the spiritual dimension. It is a part of the world to come! Therefore, it can be filled only from there with the help of the group, the studies, and other common, mutual actions.

This is the remedy called “proceeding by the path of the Light.” It is when we build a desire inside us on our own and take care of its fulfillment ahead of time. Then we advance like an old man who walks hunched over and searches for something ahead of time, as through he has lost something.
