Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

The Influence of the Environment on a Person

Obtaining the importance and exaltedness of the Creator and the goal depends entirely on the environment.
– Baal HaSulam, “A Speech for the Completion of The Zohar

Only in that is one rebuked or praised—in his choice of environment. But once he has chosen the environment, he is at its hands.

  1. It seems impossible to find an even relatively good environment – everywhere I look, and go, I feel that my environment does me much harm and that I must go somewhere far away, somewhere different with different people. I have been seeking the right kind of friends for a long time. I am still very unsatisfied. Now I turn on myself, criticizing, that I have not attracted the right people because of my own deficiency and imperfect characteristics. I don’t know if there’s any truth to this. Should I relentlessly look for the right people even if I do not feel worthy of them?
