Kabbalists About Kabbalah Today, Part 6

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

An Opportunity for Redemption

Thus, even though the Creator has delivered the land [our desire] from the hands of the nations and has given it to us [has given us a chance to begin correcting our egoism], we have not yet received [corrected] it. We are not enjoying it.

But with this giving, the Creator has given us an opportunity for redemption [from perception of this world], to be purified and sanctified [of egoism and mutual hatred] and assume the work of God in Torah and Mitzvot Lishma [properties of mutual bestowal and love].

At that time, the Temple [collective desire] will be built and we will receive the land [corrected desire] into our own authority [for the sake of bestowal]. And then we will experience and feel the joy of redemption [fulfillment by the Upper Light].
– Baal HaSulam, “A Speech for the Completion of The Zohar

  1. It would seem that the Baal HaSulam is seeing the deeper world within a reflection in this one, for certainly it seems that he is refering as well to what people in this world see with their own eyes. In general, this seems to bring up the question — if there is one-to-one correspondence between each of the worlds and their contents, only the “substance” is different, then why would higher worlds be “greater” in pleasure (through bestowal), magnitude, etc — that is, how exactly is this universe, as it were, just a pebble in comparison to the next higher. If I go from a stone chess set, to a wooden one, then glass — it is lighter, more refined, but not really “greater.”

Is it somehow that we recognize in the next, the entire universe at our present level, in each and every object/being? That is, we are able to perceive the aspects of everything in the present universe, even in the smallest “pebble” of the next, and upwards to similar (fractal) expansion? Is there a better way to model this in our present state?

  2. That was a refreshingly simple summary of correction that awaits us, and what must happen for this to take place. It gives me more incentive to make use of the will to receive to extend it, outside myself, as it were, for connection, unification, arvut, enveloped by the intent to bestow, while beseeching the Creator to deliver the light that reforms. The challenge for me is to remain as energetic, continuing with supplication, while I leave my egoistic experience alone, learning to hate it, to exit from it by inner work, and to let the light guide me to actions which are commensurate with the intent to bestow, which have been converted by the light to the desire for such.
